  • Indiana.
  • Kansas.
  • Michigan.
  • Minnesota.
  • Missouri.
  • Nebraska.
  • North Dakota.
  • Ohio.
  • Ontario.
  • South Dakota.
  • Wisconsin.

Then select your county, or choose to average all counties in your state, which will adjust the results for frost data.

Next, choose up to three goals:

  • Fighting erosion.
  • Interseeding with a cash crop.
  • Leaving lasting residue.
  • Building soil.
  • Fighting weeds.
  • Grazing.
  • Much more!

If you’d like, you can further customize your results by entering some or all of the following information:

  • Cash crop.
  • Planting and harvest dates.
  • Drainage and flooding conditions.

The tool will then output a chart showing your best options, including a rating of each plant’s suitability for your goals, a note if the cover crop is suitable for frost seeding, and a chart showing recommended planting dates.

Once you’ve found a cover crop or two that meets your needs, click on the name of the crop to learn more about about its pros and cons, as well as its planting and termination requirements. Notes specific to each state are included.

An easy-to-use way to choose the right cover crop for your unique growing conditions!
