Heavy Horses

Love big horses? Then Heavy Horses is the site for you!

Heavy Horses claims to be “Your Heavy Horse Resource & Guide.” It certainly merits that title, as it is probably one of the most comprehensive yet beginner-friendly draft horse resources on the web. It covers all key aspects of life with a heavy horse, ranging from breeds to care and feeding to the many work and recreational activities available to draft horse owners.

Just to give you a (very) small sample of the topics covered:

  • Pastures.
  • Feeding.
  • Grooming.
  • Farriery.
  • Harnessing.
  • Training.
  • Plowing.
  • Forestry.
  • Showing.
  • Obstacle driving.

The breed guide covers many different types of working horse, but focuses primarily on:

  • Shire.
  • Clydesdale.
  • Suffolk.
  • Percheron.
  • Ardennes.
  • British natives.
  • Working crosses.

Heavy Horses is geared toward the British horse owner, which may make some of the terminology confusing at first. However, its thoroughness and novice-friendly tone make it an indispensable resource.

Highly recommended for anyone considering purchasing a heavy horse for either work or pleasure.
